Empower Technologies Inc. Creates Operating System Choice for Palm Users and Palm-Compatible Manufacturers!

Empower Technologies Inc. Announces Licensing Deals for Full Version LinuxDA O/S With Manufacturers

REDMOND, WA - August 28, 2001 - In a move that will change the way that Palm and Palm-Compatible PDAs are programmed, Empower Technologies Inc. announced today at the LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco, CA that it has released the full version of the LinuxDA operating system for current Palm users and Palm-compatible licensees. Empower Technologies also announced today licensing deals with two Palm-compatible manufacturers, Elitegroup Computer Systems Co., Ltd. (ECS), and APlux Communications Ltd. (APlux), a subsidiary of Procomp Informatics Ltd., both of Taiwan.

"Just as the PC market shifted radically when the operating system was unbundled from the hardware, we believe that the Palm-compatible market is going to explode with the release of our embedded LinuxDA O/S," said Paul Leung, President and CEO of Empower Technologies.

"The consumer and licensee markets are definitely ready," said Paul Leung. "When we released the demo version of LinuxDA O/S for Palm just over a month ago, the download rate on our web site was over 30,000 copies in under three weeks.

LinuxDA O/S v1.0 DBE replaces the Palm O/S within the actual handheld device, but still remains fully compatible with the Palm and Palm-compatible hardware, providing a flexible and powerful operating system choice for consumers. Using the open source Linux kernel, Empower Technologies has designed LinuxDA O/S to be the first Linux compatible O/S scaled down for Palm and Palm-compatible CPU platforms. Just as with the original Palm O/S, LinuxDA can back up to a desktop PC and is able to utilize handwriting recognition for data input.

Empower Technologies has made the full version available to consumers who currently operate a Palm device, but the company is actively seeking additional Palm-compatible manufacturers as licensing partners.

"We are very pleased to have secured a licensing agreement with Empower Technologies Inc.,"said David Chang, Vice President of Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), one of the leading motherboard manufacturers in Taiwan. "We believe that the availability of a Linux Palm-compatible operating system will serve to provide more choice to consumers."

APlux Communications (APlux), another leading Taiwan-based Palm-compatible manufacturer, has also signed a licensing deal with Empower Technologies to install the LinuxDA operating system on its PDA products. APlux, a subsidiary of Procomp Informatics Ltd., specializes in the development of wireless handheld devices and intelligent appliances.

The full version of LinuxDA O/S v1.0 DBE is available for purchase from the Empower Technologies product web site at www.linuxda.com.
