Empower Technologies to Exhibit in Texas Instruments DSP Third Party Pavilion at Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco

Richmond, British Columbia – March 3, 2005 - Empower Technologies Corporation (“Empower”) announced the appearance of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Empower Technologies, Inc. of Redmond, Washington, at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) in San Francisco. With a focus on showcasing the power and versatility of the LDK5910 and LEOs-based embedded applications, Empower will be exhibiting in the Texas Instruments (TI) DSP Third Party Pavilion. ESC takes place March 6-10, 2005 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.

As the largest systems design event in North America, ESC 2005 San Francisco is an ideal forum for developers and engineers to learn new skills, explore the latest technologies and products, network with industry experts and discover leading companies showcasing cutting-edge products. ESC targets solutions for embedded systems design, engineering and production across a diverse market.

“ESC places a strong focus on the importance and advancement of embedded applications and development,” stated Paul Leung, chairman and CEO of Empower Technologies. “Empower’s combination of LEOs with the TI OMAP5910 dual processor in the LDK5910 platform provides a robust and reliable solution for dynamic and affordable embedded application development. Our participation as a TI DSP Third Party Developer helps to identify potential partnerships and distribution opportunities while strengthening the LDK5910’s position with developers.”

Last October, Empower launched the LinuxDATM Embedded O/S (LEOs) powered by TI’s OMAP5910 dual-core processor. Geared to powering portable data terminals (PDT) with real-time data and multimedia capabilities, the OMAP5910 is a dual-core SoC (system-on-chip) for applications requiring high-performance signal processing at low power consumption.

The LDK5910 combines LEOs, the OMAP5910 dual processor and an evaluation module (EVM) to afford a new level of cost and production efficiency to application development. With LDK5910, the OMAP hardware reference design is optimized to allow engineers to use LEOs to develop applications using the power of the OMAP5910 dual processor. With no licensing fees until the applications are ready for commercial release, LDK5910 encourages engineers to develop with flexibility, power and versatility starting at $900 USD.

The LDK5910 includes:

  • LinuxDA Embedded O/S (LEOs)
  • OMAP5910 CPU 289 pin package
  • TMS320C55x DSP and a TI DSPLink Device Driver for TI DSP Programming
  • ARM925 microprocessor unit
  • Complete evaluation module consists of three separate PCB modules – an embedded processor, interface display and LAN/expansion module
  • I2S Audio Codec AIC 23 power amplifier, speaker, headphones, and microphone connections
  • NEC Thin film Transistor (TFT) Liquid crystal display (LCD) with Quarter Video Graphics Array (QVGA), 240x320 resolution and 16-bit color screen
  • USB Client and Host port, 10-Mbit Ethernet LAN port and HP logic analyzer debugging port
  • Software Development Kit (SDK)
