Empower TechnologiesT Announces Appointment of New Director

Richmond , British Columbia - May 23, 2006 - Empower Technologies Corporation ("Empower") is very pleased to announce that Mr. Steve Gupta has been appointed to its Board of Directors, effective May 16th, 2006.

Mr. Gupta is the President and CEO of the Easton 's Group of Hotels and the Easton's Group of Companies.

With over 650 employees the Easton 's Group of Companies specializes in major hotel development and operation of 'niche' markets), such as downtown Toronto 's Theatre District . He is currently in the process of developing over $200 million of new hotels in Ontario.

The Easton's Group of Hotels owns and operates a number of hotels in Canada under the Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites, Courtyard by Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn, Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, and Quality Inn brand names, and is developing a new Residence Inn by Marriott, and its second Hilton Garden Inn both in downtown Toronto. The Easton 's company has been awarded numerous distinguished hotelier awards including Choice Hotels 'Hotel of The Year' and 'International Hotel of the Year', and the 2000 Pinnacle Award for 'Hotel Company of the Year'. Aside from hotels the Easton 's Group also owns and operates a number of Harvey's, and Swiss Chalet restaurants in addition to an Ultramar service centre located on highway 401.

Mr. Gupta is a member of the Board of the St. Michaels Hospital Foundation, and is a past member of the board of Centenary Hospital , the CNIB, and the College of Pharmacists , and he serves as Chairman of the Choice Hotels Franchisee Advisory Board and Chairman of the Franchisee Advisory Council for the Canadian Franchise Association. Mr. Gupta's personal associations include being the international spokesperson for the International Operator Council of Choice Hotels, and he is a life member of the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. He is also Chairman of the Board of the Vishnu Temple senior citizens residence.

In 2005 Mr. Gupta was named the Ernst & Young 'Entrepreneur of The Year for Ontario - Real Estate', and he was finalist for the prestigious Ernst & Young/ National Post 'Entrepreneur of The Year Award' in 2003 and 2004. In 2001 he was named 'Businessman of The Year' by the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and he was the recipient of the Queen's 'Royal Jubilee Award' for community service on the Queen's 50 th Anniversary in 2002.

Mr. Gupta is the chairman and founder of the Rajesh Gupta Charitable Foundation, a federally incorporated Canadian charity. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Punjab University in India and had studied toward a Masters Degree in Mathematics in Kurukshetra University , India .
