Empower Technologies™ Is Named Innovations 2007 Design and Engineering Award Honoree
New York, New York - November 8, 2006 - The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA ® ) today announced Empower Technologies Corporation ("Empower") as an International CES Innovations 2007 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for "iMedia Chair" at the International CES New York Press Preview . Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the trade press to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products.
iMedia Chair, the award winning innovative product is designed with Empower's core operating software technology LEOs ("LinuxDA Embedded Operating system") and using our latest embedded system development platform the LDK5910 Development Kit. LEOs embedded system development platform is specifically targeted toward the Consumer Electronics developers and manufacturers. LEOs has a wide range of applications for most of the Consumer Electronics product categories.
The iMedia Chair is the world first piece of digital furniture that features integrated iPod docking, surround sound and iPod video display. This allows for stand alone enjoyment of iPod audio and video as well as DVD, music and video game systems. The markets covered are the portable media player market, home theater and video gaming markets. The applications include home, office and professional use.
Having iPod docking and a powerful surround sound system integrated into the frame of an ergonomically designed chair definitely makes this product unique giving the user a very immersive "near field" 5.1 surround sound experience not possible with standard home theater systems and a personal screen attached to the chair allows for enjoyment of iPod video media. Auxiliary inputs allow for the connection of DVD, music and video game systems. Adjustable tactile transducer (bass shaker) allows you to not only hear but feel the action. This is a very cost effective way to experience 5.1 surround sound in a comfortable way. The screen which is attached to a swivel arm can be adjusted for each person who is viewing video from the iPod. The 3.5" touch screen allows for control of the iPods functions, something that is unique.

Products entered into Innovations 2007 must b e available to market to U.S. retail outlets or the company website between January 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007. The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria:
- Engineering qualities of the product, including technical specifications and materials used
- The product's intended use/function and user value
- Aesthetic and design qualities (using visuals provided)
- Unique and novel features
- Contributions to consumers' quality of life
- Impact on the manufacturer's business model
Products chosen as an Innovations honoree reflect innovative design and engineering of the entries. Examples may include the first time various technologies are combined in a single product or dramatic enhancements to previous product designs.
