Empower Technologies™ Entering Automotive and Transportation Industries
Richmond , British Columbia – June 5, 2007 - Empower Technologies (Empower) (TSX.V: EPT) is pleased to announce the signing of a software development license agreement and a strategic partnership agreement with Navigon Inc. (NAVIGON). This new partnership will advance and integrate infotainment, driving safety, and navigation technologies in the automotive and transportation industries.
With the software development license agreement, NAVIGON will port its automotive grade navigation and map application development toolkit, AMF and SNAP for AMF (the “Map Engine”), to Empower's LEOs embedded operating system automotive edition development platform. As a result, Empower's LEOs automotive edition development kit will be able to offer the best-in-class navigation and mapping functionality in the embedded computing industry.
In addition, LEOs can utilize the most advanced MEMS (microelectromechanical system) accelerometer and gyroscopes sensors, other inertia sensors and environmental sensors technologies to collect information in real time about the vehicle's extended environment, such as road layout, curve radii, road and weather conditions, vehicle heading or driving speed and apply the data to the real-time navigation and mapping application to find points of interest (POI), hospitality and services (hotels, gas stations, or restaurants), or to direct the driver in a turn by turn instruction and to continuously compute route planning in real time to avoid traffic congestions and to identify the least distance to get to the destination. The result is greater accuracy and timely voice prompt to direct the driver with ample time to turn safely. With its powerful high-performance automotive-grade LEOs embedded operating software, Empower is one of very few companies able to offer integrated in-car infotainment system, navigation, and computer-aided driving assistance and safety.
With the signing of the strategic partnership agreement, Empower and NAVIGON will collaborate for the purposes of exploring, researching, developing, licensing and jointly marketing new applications, products or systems using each other's technologies subject to the terms and conditions of the agreement.
The inclusion of navigation and mapping functions is a major step forward for Empower's automotive grade LEOs embedded operating software development platform. It completes the software offering required to enter the automotive and transportation industries.
NAVIGON is a valued partner of Empower in automotive and transportation industries. Recently it strengthened its position in its core competency by acquiring NAVTEQ's navigation software business. Through this acquisition, NAVIGON is now able to use its expertise in consumer electronics and apply them to the automotive industry. NAVIGON has carried out research and development jointly with companies operating in the automotive industry, including DaimlerChrysler, Ford, and Continental Teves. Empower's LEOs will benefit from the automotive-grade navigation software to enhance the in-dash navigation and in-dash infotainment platforms it is creating.
NAVIGON is a privately-held software company based in Hamburg, Germany, with NAVIGON USA headquarters in Chicago , IL . Investors include General Atlantic LLC. (http://www.navigon.com/site/uk/en).
